Artist Statement
Photography is my biggest source of expression. I like to think my work exemplifies everything I love about the medium. It is very important to me to recreate the world the way I wish it was. When working with color, it is vibrant and almost dreamlike. When working with black and white, the lighting is highly contrasted and there are enough shades of grey to magnify any peculiar textures. This art gives me control of a usually uncontrollable reality. There is also nothing that compares to the relief of seeing your photo come out in the developer. I enjoy making art because it is a visual exploration of who I am. As teenagers, we are constantly searching for the answer to the amorous question, “who are you?” As a visual learner, this seems to be the best way to find my answer. I am confident in what I produce and the process to get there is always fulfilling. Throughout my body of work, it seems I commonly use a rather central composition. I tend to curate the details of the foreground to bring out the uniqueness of my subject. I also tend to capture obscurity and the things that are either obviously not candid or uniquely candid.
